SOVEREIGN EGO

Though perched atop mortality as sovereign,
dispensing law and wisdom from on high,
the ego rules a kingdom of illusions —
its throne and scepter represent a lie.
It postulates a state of being separate
from that which God created all and good.
It claims that man is not the perfect offspring
of Spirit's perfect Father-Motherhood.

The ego looks at man and sees a mortal,
conceived in sin and born in enmity.
Its aim is but to fill the world with tombstones
to demonstrate its twisted sovereignty.
But Spirit has besieged the ego's stronghold
to challenge every law that it proclaims.
Its armies occupy the field of battle
to thwart the ego in its deadly aims.

When darkness comes, the ego's lying minions
will mesmerize, befuddle, and perplex
the host of Spirit's dedicated warriors
with arguments and lies designed to vex.
They whisper,"You know everyone is mortal,
for no one ever lives beyond their time."
But Spirit has prepared its soldiers wisely,
to disregard this ego-pantomime.

The weapons of their warfare are not carnal,
but mighty to the pulling down of lies.
They do not fear imaginary peril,
nor subtle snares the ego will devise
to undermine their faith in life eternal,
by arguing that man but lives to die.
For man was made by God to be immortal,
a truth the ego strives to falsify.

Thank God it was revealed in the Bible,
as Jesus proved by stepping from the gloom,
to demonstrate that ego has no selfhood,
and destiny for man is not the tomb.
So let us end the ego's reign of terror, —
deny its claim to our identity.
Remember, we are sons of God the Father,
at one with Him for all eternity.
