OUTLOOK

Adversaries, enemies, opponents that attack, —
we lay these claims upon the world and see them staring back.
How frightening and fierce they seem. How far beyond our grasp we deem
the cause and cure of that which fosters fear, and hate, and lack.

But our interpretation of the world is all askew.
Its dangers due, primarily, to our distorted view.
It's healing then that we require, to healing then we should aspire.
But who among us understands what healers really do?

Most of us concede that prayer should play a vital part,
but lack a clear perception of exactly where to start.
So let's devote our prayers today to seeing things a different way,
and keep an open mind about the view our prayers impart.

Imagine our surprise if we discovered as we prayed
that threats of harm result from mental choices that we've made
to view our world through thoughts of fear, compelling evil to appear,
and just by thinking differently we cause the threats to fade.

Suppose this was the case, would television spread the news?
Would psychoanalysts and commentators not excuse
the failures of society to exercise their piety,
envisioning reality in ways they should refuse?

In spite of what conventional opinion might convey
in terms of how the earth must be condemned on judgement day,
I'm still convinced that all is good, a fact that must be understood
before we can be healed or blessed by that for which we pray.

And if we learn to see the world as it was really made,
in lieu of aimless sensory perception's false parade
of objects and events that seem to come and go as in a dream,
we'll know that there is nothing here of which to be afraid.

So fear will cease to be a factor in the world we know.
And every day will fill itself with evidence to show
that good is always here to see, and will be for eternity.
Our God established laws which guarantee it long ago.
