HUMILITY

If I believe salvation for the world depends on me,
am I indulging arrogance or true humility?
Either I fulfill a role which God has pre-ordained,
or I reject His plan for me so mine can be retained.

To let our will oppose what God created us to do
is foolish pride and arrogance indeed, and futile too.
For we are fashioned perfectly to do His holy will, —
as perfect Sons of God, His holy purpose we fulfill.

Such knowledge tends to sober us because it brings to mind
the fact that God relies on us, and trusts us each to find
our innocence and Christliness within, and with these tools,
to free ourselves from every thought that mortal ego rules.

Our efforts heretofore to prove that what is false is true,
must be reversed to cultivate a different point of view.
And from this different viewpoint we will see that man is one
With God, as Jesus Christ revealed the Father and the Son.

Since God defines our role as being vital to His plan,
let not our false humility determine what we can
or can't achieve by listening to the Voice for God alone
destroying  false beliefs for which we think we must atone.

The self that arrogance has chosen trembles at this sound
And seeks to hide behind attack to gain some vantage ground.
But as this ego crumbles in a pile of earthly dust,
We rise in true humility to hear the Voice we trust.

And if the function we're assigned seems more than we can do,
Remember who appoints our task, and how He trusts in you
To be the perfect image of His likeness, nothing less,
His Son, who was not made to judge but to forgive and bless.
